An AI Label Should Explain the Character's Role
Read identity, purpose, and authority as separate parts of an on-page guide.
Separate appearance from identity
Imagine a website using a named illustrated host beside a workshop catalog. A humanlike portrait, a conversational tone, and a personal name describe presentation choices; they do not establish who created a reply or which organization the host represents. Look for an explicit explanation of the character's role. If the page describes an AI guide, use that description when evaluating the interaction rather than inventing a real person's biography from the image or the style of the welcome.
Locate the purpose of the guide
The guide might be presented as a catalog navigator, an explanation assistant, or a character used in an editorial experience. Those purposes suggest different expectations. In the workshop example, a catalog navigator could help compare listed topics without being the person who teaches them. Read the scope statement and identify the task it says the guide performs. If the purpose is unclear, ask what information the guide is intended to help with before relying on it for a more specialized judgment.
Do not merge a guide with a creator
A guide appearing next to a creator's work does not automatically explain its relationship to that creator. Look for wording that distinguishes the publisher of the page, the creator of the work, and the guide itself. For example, an independent catalog might assign its own host to discuss several publicly described collections. Evaluate that as an editorial arrangement unless a different relationship is explicitly established. The useful question is who is speaking in each part of the experience and on whose behalf.
Choose language that preserves the distinction
When discussing the page, describe the host as the page describes it: an AI catalog guide, an illustrated presenter, or another stated role. Avoid turning a character's suggestion into a personal endorsement by the creator whose work appears nearby. If the relationship is not explained, note that gap directly. A clear label helps only when it connects identity with purpose and authority; your practical check is whether a new visitor could explain all three without guessing from the visual design.
