Give Screen Sharing a Clear Start and Stop
Prepare a limited demonstration so a helpful call does not become an accidental tour of private account activity.
Prepare the demonstration before the audience arrives
A screen-sharing call goes more smoothly when you know exactly what you intend to show. Open a harmless example or the relevant public page before starting, and keep unrelated private accounts out of the demonstration. If the question is about a button's position, you may not need to open your own message history at all. The preparation should narrow the task, not create a complicated performance. A simple, relevant view makes it easier for both you and the other person to understand the problem.
Know what the sharing control actually includes
Different calling tools provide different sharing choices. Read the option presented by your tool instead of assuming it shares only the page you are looking at. If a limited window or document view is available and sufficient, consider that narrower choice. Do not confuse showing a screen with granting someone control of the device. If the session asks for a broader capability, treat it as a new request that needs its own explanation and your deliberate agreement.
Pause before moving into private material
During a call, someone may ask you to open account settings or check a message. Stop sharing before deciding whether that additional material belongs in the demonstration. A momentary pause is easier than trying to conceal details while clicking through them. eSafety notes that displayed content can be captured, including by another device. You should therefore share material that is appropriate for the audience rather than depending entirely on a promise that nobody will save what they can see.
Confirm the session has ended
Use the sharing tool's own controls to stop the demonstration and check the visible state before returning to unrelated account work. If you permitted device control through a verified support process, confirm that this has ended too. Summarize the result in words: what was shown, what changed, and what remains unresolved. Do not continue exposing a desktop simply because the conversation is still friendly. The practical boundary is a specific demonstration for a specific purpose, with an ending as clear as its beginning.
